When the water dams, it can also get under the flashings, tar paper, shingles, etc. Once the water freezes, you may have a future leak problem on your hands as the ice thaws. When the water freezes, it can cause damages to your roof and structure of your home. To prevent ice dam leaks, install a membrane under the roofing. These membranes won’t be able to stop the ice from forming, but it can stop leaks if they are properly installed.
