Useful Information about EPDM Rubber Pipe Flashings

EPDM Rubber
This article is to provide useful information about EPDM rubber and why we at Flashings Direct manufacture the vast majority of our products using it!
Properties: EPDM stands for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer. It serves as an effective roofing product due to its high resistance to ozone, Ultraviolet light, extreme temperatures, and weather elements. In addition, it exhibits excellent electrical insulation properties and is a dynamic substance which makes it useful in flexing into the users desired shape or position. These properties have made EPDM one of the fastest growing and widest used synthetic materials in automotive, construction, and mechanical good applications.
Advantages: In addition to the properties above, it is particularly useful in liquid applications as it does not emit pollutants that will affect water (i.e.It will not pollute rainwater run-off from roofs). EPDM also accepts dyes well which makes it possible for us to offer flashings in nearly any roofing color to match the roof and keep the fixture discreet.
Disadvantages: EPDM is considered a non-oil resistant material. It’s considered incompatible with petroleum based products such as oil, gasoline, and kerosene. In the case of our products, most applications do not come in contact with oil products.
Your Project: When trying to determine which product to select for your specific job, consult the chart below to determine if it meets the temperature ratings of your pipe. Also, be sure to use our Flashing Calculator to help you select the right size for your job! Thanks for reading.
